Colt 1862 Police & Pocket Navy Sort by: Manufacturer Model Caliber

Last updated on Thursday November 19th 2009

Colt 1862 Pocket Navy conversion .38 caliber revolver with 3” barrel. Very unusual gun. Serial number 322415. Numbered in the 1849 Pocket model range. The Pocket Navy frame is larger so this is not some ‘49 made into a Pocket Navy! This is probably a very early version of the 3” Pocket Navy made as an original gun and not made from an already existing Pocket Navy. Other examples of this gun are either normal Pocket Navy range or factory mismatch assembled guns. A real Colt rarity. $2,450.00

Colt 1862 Police This is a very early gun being serial number 651 and has a Hartford barrel address. Also very desirable as it has an iron backstrap and trigger guard and it is not English proofed. Gun has a nice smooth brown patina all over the metal surfaces with traces of blue in protected areas. Back strap in period inscribed “Joseph F. Sinnott Philad.” Sinnott was a mogul in his day being the owner of one of the largest distilleries, named Gibsonton Mills Distillery. He built a giant 32 room mansion named Rathalla in Rosemont Philadelphia. The estate which sat on 40 acres eventually became the college campus for Rosemont College and the Rathalla house still stands and is in use today. A packet of research accompanies this historic gun. $5,950.00

Colt 1862 Police Trapper In The Book of Colt Firearms on page 174 they picture an identical example. They note that these are special order snub nose models and that 25 to 50 are estimated to exist. This example is indeed rare as it has a "shield" device attached to the frame to hold caps in place or prevent bit of cap flying off and injuring the eye of the shooter? This gun will be featured in Dick Salzers column "Accoutrement corner" in Gun Report Magazine. $5,500.00
