Billinghurst revolver pill lock rifle on the Billinghurst patent. Production is only estimated at a few hundred. This gun is in excellent original condition with 95% of the original brown on the barrel and cylinder. Case colors remain on the lock and frame is mostly protected areas. Wood is excellent. Confederate Alteration of an 1816 Starr from the Ben Michel collection and pictured in the catalogue. Mr. Michel notes that this bolster alteration with rounded bottom and lockplate filed to fit bolster is typical of those alterations done by the Union Manufacturing Co. of Richmond, VA. Confederate Alteration of a Hall rifle. This alteration was performed by brazing a percussion hammer to the original flintlock hammer base and screwing a nipple into the former pan which has been built up to support the nipple. Confederate Richmond Assembled rifle. This 1861 special musket type (Amoskeag lock in case) is typical of Richmond altered and assembled guns. Barrels were shortened from 40” to 33”, front barrel band removed, barrel now has the brass Richmond nose cap and Richmond front sights. This gun is from the renown Ben Michel collection and is pictured in the catalogue. See additional photo text for Mr. Michel’s commentary. Note: In a personal conversation with Mr. Michel he says the catalogue description says Colt 1861 and makes several references to Colt. This is an error as this gun is the correct gun but is by Amoskeag and should have been referred to as such in the catalogue description. The alteration commentary is correct for this gun. $3,950.00

These types of alterations have a somewhat crude hammer brazed to the base of the original flintlock hammer and the nipple screwed in to the old pan leaving the rear fence intact.
