Civil War Presentation Colt 1851 Navy (C14254)

Civil War Presentation Colt 1851 Navy. Made in 1861. Very fine Colt 1851 Navy model in very fine condition. Barrel has around 50% of the original blue mixed with patina. Frame has very good case colors. Cylinder has all of the scene and nice original blue remaining. Grips have very good original varnish. The backstrap has a presentation to Melzar Dunbar, Jr. and reads “Melzar Dunbar, Jr / From his friends, May 1st 1861". 

Melzar Dunbar, Jr. was a 31-year-old clerk from Boston when he was commissioned into Co. B, 11th Massachusetts Infantry as a 1st Lieutenant. Dunbar injured his back and was discharged on September 7th, 1861. He later re-enlisted and was commissioned a Captain in the 47th Massachusetts Infantry on October 9th 1862, his commission was cancelled on November 24th of the same year. Very fine presentation Navy!
