Colt 1860 Army

  • Colt 1860 Army .44 caliber revolver. Gun is in the 54xxx range, but has a fluted cylinder which is not proper for this range and is of course mismatched. Note the very neat ramrod lever barrel catch. Bore has good rifling and has scattered corrosion. Grips are good plus with visible but somewhat faint cartouche. Now, is the fluted cylinder from a Confederate fluted Army? We don’t know. But if you want a reasonably priced Army with a fluted cylinder, here it is.

  • U.S. Marked Colt 1860 Army. Made in 1863. Scarce gun! This was a gun used in the civil war and then sent back to the Arsenal and refurbished for the Indians wars. During the refurbishing process, these guns were disassembled and no attempt was made to match the serial numbered parts after each piece had been refurbished. These were then marked in the trigger guard with a U.S. Most of these guns were sent to the 9th and 10th Cavalry which were also known as the “Buffalo Soldiers”. These were black soldiers that were given inferior arms instead of the latest greatest available to the White units. The Buffalo Soldiers also saw some of the heaviest Indian fighting and much of this happened in Texas and out on the plains. Very neat gun that is in very good condition for one of these with about 25% of the finish and good case colors remaining. Nice sharp grips and an overall nice sharp gun! Nice historic Colt 1860 Army!
