  • Volkssturm VG1 8mm caliber rifle. This is a very rare, late war bolt action rifle that was produced in March/April 1945. These rifles represented the Nazi’s final attempts to manufacture a simple but serviceable weapon for the Volkssturm. These rifles were to capitalize on the traditional turning and drilling operators for rifle production, hence the round bar stock receiver, bolt and barrel group. The remaining parts are all stampings or welded operations. This rifle is marked “113” on top of the receiver and end of the bolt handle with “srg” on the left side. There are no proof marks of any sort. The late war beech stock is also unmarked and has a simple flat sheet metal butt plate, cross-bolt and simple sling ring on the left front of the forearm. The bottom rear of the stock is stamped “3/1” signifying issue to the 1st Volkssturm Battalion, Gau Berlin. The barrel is stepped and is equipped with a dove tailed blade front sight, and there is a square notch rear sight on the front receiver plate. It has a ten round K-43 magazine marked “Avx”, “eagle/WaA204” and “K43”. These VG1 rifles are scarce and the coded examples are among the rarest with less than 500 produced. This variation is discussed on page 158 of “Desperate Measures” by Darrin Weaver. With reference letter. <!-- serial number 113 -->

  • Steyr VK-98 8mm caliber rifle. Volkssturm VK-98-VG5 bolt action rifle. 21” barrel with a bright excellent bore and counter bored muzzle. The metal surfaces retain remnants of a hot immersion blue on the barrel which has drifted to a dull gray-blue, the stepped portion toning to a plum, while the receiver is more of a dark blue-gray, the rear ring drifting to plum. The receiver shows the appropriate “bnz45” marking, with “Mod98” marking on the ring ahead of the rear sight. The receiver exhibits hasty wartime machine markings overall and shows no evidence of having any other markings, neither present nor removed at any point, the matching precisely matches that seen in the work
Desperate Measures the Last-Ditch Weapons of the Nazi Volkssturm. <!-- serial number 8107 -->

The left side of the receiver features model and serial number markings along with makers code of ”tbq” thought to be Rheinmetall-Borsig at Unterl.

The metal surfaces of this bnz 45 coded 5 shot rifle retain 85% original blue with some scattered areas of fading on the barrel, receiver, floorplate and trigger guard. The butt plate shows light oxidation staining and the laminated stock rates very good with a ½” abrasion on right side of pistol grip, a few small chips around heel, scattered handling marks and dings. The bolt handle and barrel are the only numbered parts and they are matching to each other. The rifle has the correct “bnz 45” code, the correct bolt, the correct fixed rear sight and the correct sling hardware. The floorplate is marked “byf” and with two “(Eagle)/135” for Mauser Oberndorf which was a subcontractor for the VK-98 rifles and the front floorplate screw is missing. A rubber muzzle cap and a permanently attached period leather sling that shows crazing throughout and is marked
“M5/27/6/RZ” on the buckle are included with this rifle. A very good example of these scarce Volkssturm rifles. <!-- serial number 574 -->
