German Percussion Target Rifle by W. Poppe, Berlin (AL4389)

German Percussion Target Rifle by W. Poppe, Berlin. This is a very fine quality rifle. Bore is approximately .40 caliber. The swamped barrel is 27 ½” long and the rifle is 45” Long overall. The breech plug and tang as well as the lock plate hammer and side plate and butt plate are all profusely engraved with foliate designs and beautifully executed. The rifle has adjustable set triggers. The trigger guard is black horn. The stock has very fine checkering and is in excellent condition, not being bruised or dented (really a miracle in itself as superfine checkering usually is worn smooth). The hammer has a blocking safety to allow the shooter to leave a percussion cap on the nipple with the hammer almost resting on the cap but not. By full cock of the hammer the blocking safety swings downward allowing the hammer to fall and fire the rifle. The rifle has both rear barrel sight and a more traditional diopter tang sight. The front sight is a thin post with bead atop. The stock shows some light handling use but shows no chips or cracks. Overall this is a fine rifle anyone would be proud to own!
