Whitney 1816 Massachusetts Percussion Conversion Musket (AL4605)

Whitney 1816 Massachusetts percussion conversion musket. These muskets were converted around 1851 and less than 300 were made. Metal has a gray patina, looks to have been cleaned at some point. Lock plate and barrel tang are dated 1835. The brass butt plate has the number “5” stamped on it. Wood is good with a faint oval cartouche. These muskets were also known as “Sea Fencible” or “Coast Artillery” muskets.
