This Model 1836 flintlock pistol was made by Robert Johnson in Middletown, CT, in 1840. Johnson manufactured approx. 18,000 between 1836 and 1844. The 8.5" round 54 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fine bore. It is marked U S. over JH over an indistinct P at the breech. The left barrel flat has a small H sub-inspection stamp. All the metal is polished bright. The lock is marked U.S. over R....
