New York State Militia Remington rolling block .50-70 caliber rifle. 36” Round barrel with excellent bore. Smooth metal with a blue/brown patina. Stocks are good with an approximately 2½” chip between the top and middle bands missing at the ramrod channel. Cartouche “Banngr” on the left wrist is visible. A rack number of “191” over “47” is on the top of the comb. Another rack number, “A” over “54” is on the butt plate tang. Model can be identified by: the very high hammer spur, the thumb lever that protrudes outward to the right, the action safety which places the hammer at half-cock when the breech block is closed, all features of this rifle. This New York militia rolling block rifle was made circa 1872.
