This was 2 days after Ft. Sumter which was the first battle that ignited the Civil War and this gun along with 471 others were shipped to a Southern shipping address. In the newly released book The Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver by Charles Pate, he has identified the guns shipped to Peter Williams and Company as being a Confederate Contract and the last shipment south by Colt.
