The Finest Moore Derringer in Existence Serial number 7. Low serial number 7. The first 40 guns made have early features like the barrel release on the left hand side and a straight trigger housing where the later ones had trigger housing canted towards the barrel. This gun is in excellent condition with 95% of the original blue on the barrel. 40% of the original silver is on the frame. This gun has in the chamber the reloadable percussion insert. A nice old case accompanies the gun, however it is our opinion the interior is newer than the period of use. This gun is inscribed to “Capt. F.A. Howard” on the left hand side of the frame. Captain Howard served in the Treasury Guard. The Treasury Guard was a regiment of male Treasury Department employees who formed a unit during the civil war for the defense of Washington DC. This gun had been in some of the finest collections including William Locke’s. It is an extremely rare gun in fantastic condition identified to a Soldier of the Treasury guard. At one time a well known dealer appraised this gun at $45,000.00!
