Colt 1872 Open Top Single Action Revolver. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Action works perfectly. One-piece rosewood grips are excellent. Numbers all match except wedge which is unnumbered. The barrel has somehow had some of its “skin” (if that is a good word to describe it) peeled away for about ¾” at the muzzle and front sight. Same peeling continues at breech and continues forward 2 ½” leaving much of the barrel address missing except for “Address Col.” “Rica” (would have been America). Absolutely no idea how this peeling occurred. The barrel has a mostly even blue except for the peeled areas which are blue but a different lighter color. In our opinion, the frame and hammer have been re-case colored and have approximately 95% of those colors. Trigger guard and backstrap are silver plated and have approximately 70% of silver finish. The cylinder scene is perfect with 100% blue finish. In our opinion, the cylinder is a really good repro complete with the Colts Patent and serial number bar. This revolver is lacking in originality as noted above, but for an Open Top it has a nice appearance. Instead of costing you $8,000 t $10,000 or more, this one can fill a hole in your collection for a reasonable price of $3500.00
