Civil War Field Surgeons Kit Made by Chas. Truax & Company Chicago Ill. This complete field surgeons kit with large bone saws (used in amputations), trepanning device for inter cranial surgery, tourniquet, surgeons’ silk and suture, five surgical knives, and a wicked looking instrument for hooking flesh or tendons, etc. With most instruments have checkered wooden handles (post Civil War kits come with metal handles). The case is lined in deep purple velveteen with the makers label in the section that separates the saws and pliers. The exterior of the case is excellent with a vacant oval in the lid for the doctor’s name, rank and unit identification. The case is 15¾” in length, 5¼” width and 2⅞” in depth. Comes with case key. This is a very fine set and is complete as configured (most kits you see are post Civil War or are incomplete or reproductions). This is a really good item for a Civil War collector!
