Cased Pair of Colt London Pocket Model of Navy Caliber (AC128)
The Pocket Navy is one of the scarcer of the Colt percussion revolvers with fewer than 22,000 made, and many of these were converted to or manufactured as cartridge revolvers. This pair of Pocket Navies have 5.5" octagon barrels with excellent bores that appear to be unfired. They are .36 caliber with 5-shot cylinders, and have Model 1851 Navy style hinged loading levers. Both have "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK US AMERICA" barrel markings. They both have L-serial numbers which were used for guns designated for the English market. They both have Victorian English proofs on the barrel frame and on each cylinder chamber. Pocket Navy serial number 13636L has approx. 98% blue including the grip straps and trigger guard. The frame has strong case colors. The cylinder, which is numbered to the gun, has an excellent scene. The varnished walnut grips are excellent with no chips or cracks. Pocket Navy serial number 13638L has approx. 98% blue including the grip straps and trigger guard. The frame has visible case colors. The cylinder, which is numbered to the gun, has an excellent scene. The varnished walnut grips are excellent with no chips or cracks. The case also contains two wrapped Colt's New Model Revolving Police Pistol 36 caliber cartridge packets, two Colts Patent/E. Pluribus Unum eagle with shield and star and crossed revolver single-sided flasks (one has a small dent on the obverse), two correct excellent blued Colt's Patent 36 P. molds, and a correct key for the case. The case, which measures 9.25" by 13.25" by 2", is very fine with intact partitions with only one small wear area. The varnish finish is fine and there are no chips or cracks and minimal use/storage wear. Note that the serial numbers of this pair are only two apart. This very rare double set of Pocket Navy revolvers is ready for the finest collection!
