U.S. Model 1861 Rifle-musket by E. Robinson (AL5278
E. Robinson of New York delivered 30,000 58 caliber percussion rifle-muskets to the Union between 1864 and 1865. The 40" round barrel has a good dark bore with visible rifling. The barrel has the V over P over eagle proofs with L.E.M. inspection to the side. It is dated 1864. The lock has he second type E. Robinson marking with the E. ROBINSON legend in an arc over NEW YORK. The 1864 date at the rear is barely visible. All metal is bright with scattered areas of discoloration. The stock is good with the expected issue wear including a gouged area on the lower left between the front two bands, a chip on the left at the lower band, and some wood loss at the upper ramrod channel. There are two faint inspectors marks on the left flat. The action functions correctly. This is a good representative Model 1861 rifle-musket.
