The U.S. Model 1866 50-70 Government centerfire rifle was manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1866. They were made from altered Model 1863 58 caliber percussion muskets with barrels lined to 50 caliber. The 36 5/8" round barrel has an excellent bore. The barrel, triggerguard, buttplate, and bands are unpolished bright. The breechblock, marked 1866 over an eagle, has 95% of its original black color. The lock, marked U.S./SPFINGFIELD with eagle and 1864 date, has very good original case colors. The hammer also retains most of its case colors. The stock is excellent with sharp edges, very little storage wear, no chips or cracks, and strong ESA and SWP cartouches which slightly overlap. The action functions correctly. This second Allin is as good as it gets! If you want a nice one, this one is for you.
