This percussion rifle musket is typical of Confederate Richmond Arsenal assembled guns during the Civil War. They will be found with a mix of Confederate and Union parts. With the exception of the lock which is marked C.S/RICHMOND, VA. and is dated 1863, the remainder of this rifle musket is a U.S. Model 1855. The 40" round 58 caliber barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is dated 1857 and has V/P/eagle proofs. It is equipped with the Model 1855 long range sight which is graduated from 1 to 4. All the metal has a smooth brown patina. This rifle musket has one of the nicest looking Richmond locks we have seen. The stock is good with no cracks or chips and the expected dents and dings of an issued Civil War firearm. There are no cartouches. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This rifle musket comes with a very good Model 1855 bayonet that has turned smooth brown. This Richmond lock rifle musket would be a great addition to a Confederate or Civil War collection.
