This is a good representative early Model 1862 Sharps and Hankins Army carbine. The 24.25" round 52 rimfire caliber barrel has a good bore with bright, strong rifling which has frosting in the grooves. It has the standard Sharps and Hankins rear sight and no front sight. The muzzle is flat. All the metal has either a smooth brown patina (barrel and tangs) or a moderately pitted brown patina (receiver, etc. The brass buttplate is very good. The markings on the left and right of the receiver are barely visible. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips. The lever latch needs slight adjustment as it does not engage. The action functions correctly. This is the scarce first model with the firing pin on the hammer. The action functions correctly This is a good representative example of an early Sharps and Hankins Model 1862 Army carbine. The price reflects the overall condition.
