Colt 1851 Navy revolver inscribed "First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry" on back strap in fine script. On bottom of butt it is inscribed "J.L. Johnson". The Philadelphia City Cavalry initiated in 1774 as a volunteer cavalry in defense of the colonies. They fought throughout the American Revolution and had a continuity for 230 years. Serving in numerous conflicts such as War of 1812, War with Mexico, Civil War, World War One, World War II, and Korea. This is one of the most deployed units in the Army! The Adjutant at the First City Troop reveals that J.L. Johnson was J. Lindley Johnson #721, elected Sept. 1862 to the First City Troop. He died in 1883. This revolver was made approximately 1863, and has been nickel plated at some point. The action works and locks up perfectly. Bore is excellent. All numbers matching. Cylinder has not been nickel plated and has a good cylinder scene. Barrel address and markings are sharp and clear. Grips are very good plus, missing approximately 70% of it's varnish. A neat piece of history.
