This is a Danish-Norwegian percussion altered Model 1769-1841 rifled musket with a dog lock hammer safety. It started life as a Danish 18mm smooth bore Model 1769 flintlock musket with the dog lock safety on the hammer. It was most likely altered to percussion after 1841 in Norway where it was fitted with a 40.5" 18mm rifled barrel. The overall length of this Model 1769-1841 rifled musket is approx. 52.25". The 37.5" (shortened 3") round barrel has an excellent bright rifled bore. The barrel is bright with light staining. The large block front and folding leaf rear sight are present. With the exception of a serial number, 7092, and a K (probably for Kongsberg), the lock is unmarked. The lock and hammer are bright. The brass furniture, including three ramrod pipes, the trigger guard, side plate, and butt plate, are very good. It has the correct heavy brass-tipped iron ramrod. Both swivels are present. The beech wood stock is good with a couple of small chips along the barrel channel and small cracks from the rear lock screw to the breech and at the front of the lock. The stock, which is numbered 5463, was refinished when the percussion alteration was performed. The lock functions correctly with the exception of half cock which can be overridden by the trigger. This is a good representative example of a scarce Danish-Norwegian rifled musket.
