This is a very nice percussion hunting rifle by John Allen, New York, New York. Allen worked from 1876 to 1878. This rifle has an overall length of approx. 49.25". The medium weight (.918" across the flats) 35 caliber barrel has a fine bore with strong rifling. The barrel retains much of its original smooth brown finish. It has a German silver blade front sight and fixed rear sight. The barrel is marked JOHN ALLEN over NEW YORK with 1878 to the rear. The unmarked lock and hammer have a smooth brown patina. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate are fine. The key fastened stock is fine with light usage dents and dings and no chips or cracks. The wood ramrod is present. The double set trigger action functions correctly. This is very nice example of a late New York made percussion hunting rifle.
