This single barrel 12GA percussion shotgun was made circa 1840 by C. Baker of Albany, NY. The overall length is approx. 51". The unmarked round 36" barrel has a good smooth bore with scattered roughness. The barrel has a smooth gray-brown patina. The lock is marked C BAKER. The tail has a hunting dog and two pheasants along with additional decorative engraving on the tail and hammer. The lock and hammer have a smooth brown patina. the nipple is a modern replacement. The brass trigger guard, butt plate, and ramrod pipe are very good. The German silver nose cap is very good. The stock is very good with a minor chip at the barrel tang, and light usage dents and dings. The action functions correctly with the exception that the hammer can be released at half cock with a trigger pull. If you like early percussion shotguns or need a nice looking gun over your mantle, this one is for you.
