Very fine Pattern 1872 Presentation grade sword to William E Thompson by the Elks Lodge. Blade is beautifully acid etched with patriotic themes on both sides. The hilt is brass relief cast and gilded. The sharkskin is stained to a black is blue hue. The scabbard is nickel plated and has one sided relief gilded brass mounts with patriotic themes. The scabbard is inscribed “May 9th 1898/ Presented to/ Bro. W.E. Thompson/ Major 14th Regiment/ N.G. P./ by Lodge No. 136 B.P.O. Elks  McKeesport, Pa” Major William E. Thompson turned into a Colonel of the National Guard of Pennsylvania. Col. Thompson spent his career working in government and held several elected positions in addition to his service in the Pennsylvania National guard. He also has a member of the Elks lodge which this sword presented him with. Very nice sword!
