This percussion greatcoat pistol is marked on the frame, EGG, LONDON. This is most likely the firm of Durs Egg but it could have been another of the many members of the Egg family working in London. The overall length is approx. 9". The round 4.5" smooth bore 50 caliber barrel has a good bore with a couple of arear of pitting near the muzzle. There is a Birmingham proof on the barrel. There is a captured ramrod below the barrel. The entire pistol is a mixture of bright and gray-brown. The action body, hammer, and trigger guard have scroll engraving. The finely checkered bag grips are fine with light wear and no cracks or chips. There is a blank escutcheon on the wrist. The action functions correctly. This is a nice English greatcoat pistol.
