Special Model 1861 Rifle-Musket (AL6984)
This percussion 58 caliber Special Model 1861 rifle-musket was manufactured by the Lamson, Goodnow & Yale Company of Windsor, VT. The 40" round barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is dated 1863 on top of the chamber with V over P over an eagle inspections below. The barrel is bright with scattered staining. The lock is marked U.S. over L.G. & Y. over WINDOSR VT in the center with 1864 at the tail. The lock and hammer show turned case colors. the nose cap, bands, trigger guard, and butt plate are bright with scattered staining. The swivels and ramrod are present. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips, light issue wear, and no visible cartouches. The action functions properly. Every Civil War collector should have an example of a Special Model 1861 rifle-musket.
