US Surcharged British 1796 Heavy Cavalry Carbine (AL6966)

This bayonet-equipped British flintlock Pattern 1796 heavy cavalry carbine is US surcharged on the barrel and lock. The overall length is approx. 41". The approx. 26.25" round 75 caliber barrel has a good bore with very light roughness. It has two London proofs at the top followed by the US stamp. The U and S are seperated indicating that this is a post Revolutionary war marking. All metal has a brown patina with the barrel and sling bar having light roughness. The lock is marked with a crown over GR at the center and TOWER at the tail, Behind the TOWER marking is another US with the separated letters. The lock has areas of light pitting. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, butt plate, ramrod pipe, and side plate have an even dark aged patina. The sling bar and ring and ramrod are present. The stock is very good with a small chip at the bottom of the lock, a stable age crack on the right below the lock, inspectors stamps behind the trigger guard and on the left flat, and light to moderate isssue wear. The bayonet is good with a brown patina and light surface roughness. The blaed measures 15.5" and the socket is approx. 3". The action functions correctly. This is a rarely seen British carbine ESPECIALLY with the US surcharges. Don't miss it!
