British Pattern 3 Snider Enfield Rifle (AL5463)

Scarce British pattern 3 Snider Enfield rifle-musket with Egyptian or Indian markings on receiver and barrel. Overall length is 55”. The 36½” round .577 Centerfire round barrel has an excellent bore. The barrel has approx. 95% blue/brown finish. The remaining  metal is smooth and bright with scattered stains, to be expected of a 150-year-old infantry rifle. The brass triggerguard, nose cap, and buttplate are very good with age patina. The stock, with a coat of added finish, is very good with the dents and dings expected of a service rifle. There are no cracks or chips. The lock is stamped with a crown broad arrow/”1871”/ ”Enfield”, crown / “VR” at the rear, and a downward pointing broad arrow toward the front. The barrel has STEEL followed by a crown over 10 followed by various inspection and proof marks. The top of the chamber is stamped “III”. There are various other inspection and proof stamps throughout. The sling swivels and cleaning rod are present. The butt stock right side is stamped with the R crown M ENFIELD in a circle with an indistinct mark in the center. The action functions correctly.
