Jacob Fordney percussion trade rifle (AL7478)

.54 caliber 42.5" octagonal barrel percussion trade musket by Jacob Fordney.Gun is believed to be one of the 250 contracted by the U.S. Government in 1837. Metal is a brown patina with moderate oxidation noted. Barrel is marked J Fordney/Lancaster/PA and is still legible. Wood is good with an old repaired crack noted from the rear pipe to the middle thimbles. Dings and handling wear are visible as is a coating of old varnish that has been applied. Action functions with no half cock.
