Serial numbers 50836 and 50840. Made in 1856. 36 caliber with a 7 ½” barrels. Very interesting set of guns that belonged to Hugh Harrison who was the secretary of Colt Patent Firearms Company and served directly under Samuel Colt. These guns came directly out of his family. Very interesting guns as these guns are finished commercially yet are US marked and inspected. Both guns are in excellent condition retaining more than 95% of their original blue and having bright case colors. Both trigger guards and back straps are nickel plated instead of silver plated. The cartouches wood grips are varnished. These guns come with a letter from noted author and Colt expert R. L. Wilson explaining who Hugh Harrison was and how these revolvers were found. Mr. Hughes was employed by Colt from 1856 till 1891. Mr. Wilson theorizes in his letter that Mr. Hughes wanted a set of guns from the time period that he began his service at Colt. Apparently at one time they had a deluxe case that housed both guns, unfortunately it was separated at some time since they left the family in 1988. This is an absolutely gorgeous set of Presentation Colt 1851 Navies!
