U.S. Navy Model 1861 Whitney “Plymouth” rifle .69 caliber (AL8141)

NSN, made in 1863, .69 caliber, 34” round rifled barrel. Barrel and other iron pieces are dark grey patina with mottled areas of surface oxidation visible. Barrel tang Is marked 6878, dated 1863 with “V/P/Eagle and “FCW” inspector mark as well. Lock plate has “EAGLE/U.S./Whitney-ville” forward of the hammer. Rear is marked with “1863”. Stock is very good with minor nicks visible, handsome cartouche is visible left side. Bore is bright with light surface oxidation visible. Action functions correctly. Comes with a beautiful Dahlgren Bowie-knife bayonet, ricasso is marked “U.S.N./D.R./1863 and opposite side is marked with “Ames Mfg. Co./Chicoppe/MASS.
