Confederate Colt CL Dragoon (C11585)
Very rare Confederate Colt CL Dragoon. Made in 1860. 8” barrel gun which was on several of the CL Dragoons. Reasonably sharp gun with a dark gray patina and good cylinder scene. Gun is mostly matching and works properly. Left hand side of the barrel lug is stamped “CL Dragoons”. Grips are very good. The cylinder is 23 numbers off the rest of the gun. The CL Dragoons were named after John Crocheron who supported this unit and the unit was called “Crocheron Light Dragoons” hence CL Dragoons. The unit was formed in Mobile, AL in January of 1862. This unit saw heavy fighting in the battles of Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chikamauga and Chattanooga. It is estimated that there are only 105 total number guns that were issued and marked. It is only estimated that 25 or so are known. This gun was in the famous Robert Pershing Collection and comes with a write up from the late collector.
