Rare Lindsay Two Shot Large Size .45 Caliber Percussion Pistol. Barrel is 8 ½”rare as only 100 made as estimated. Smooth bore. Made by Union Knife Co. Naugatuck, CT. for the inventor John P. Lindsay. Circa early 1860’s. This is a superposed load pistol using one barrel with two offset chambers. The single trigger operates the sequence of firing with the front load firing first and the second load (rear Load) firing last. Note: The Europeans tried superposed loads two centuries. Earlier and managed to blow up the gun as well as the shooter. Lindsay got it right and smaller examples of this pistol operate the same way with no problems. Gun has 95% blue (Some light fading butt very good overall) Brass frame has a fine even mustard color patina. Barrel marked on top at Breech end “Lindsay’s Young America” with patent number. Grips are good with original varnish. Bottom of but has numerous dings on underside. Apparently one hundred and sixty years ago people didn’t have hummers as we have solid hundreds of guns with dings on the butt.
