Suke Kane Wakisashi This is a finally forged wakizashi that is inscribed Bizen Osafune Ju Yokoyama Suke Kane Saku. On the reverse of the Nakago (tang) is the inscription: Tomonari Go Ju Hachid Mago. This means that the smith is the 58th generation of Tomonari. Actual genealogy across 58 generations cannot be expected, so this is a self-styled continuation of the work left behind by the ancestor Tomonari. Also, inscribed is the date of Bun-Kvu Ninen hachi gatsu (August of 1862). The Nagasa (cutting edge) is 45.7cm (18”). This blade features a distictive choji midar with profuse nie. It is in old Shirasaya with horn with a silver foil habaki. Reference: Hawley, p. 764; Shinto Jiten, p. 482. This is a full “in polish” Wakizashi in a fine Shira Saya (resting case). Beautiful sword!
