U.S. 1850 Foot Officer Sword with Confederate Inscription (SW937 )

U.S. 1850 Foot Officer Sword with Confederate Inscription. Throat of scabbard has inscription that reads "Capt. J.J. Winston/38th Reg Ala Vol./May 3rd 1862". John J. Winston was a Captain in the 38th Regiment in the Alabama Infantry. He enlisted on May 3rd, 1862 which is the same date of the inscription. Accompanying sword is a Winstons service records and the history of the unit. Further research shows that he was a slave owner and it appears he owned 92 slaves meaning he was a wealthy man. Blade is patinaed and still has all of the etching. Blade is an import. What is also very neat about this blade is it saw combat as it shows all of the nicks in the blade one finds on a sword that was used. This is a unique opportunity to own an identified confederate used sword!
