Shinto Wakizashi (J427)

A Shinto wakizashi inscribed Sesshu No Kami Minamoto Kuni Tsugu. On the reverse: Nanban Tetsu O Motte Koreo Tsukuru. This means that this Settsu Smith forged this blade with foreign imported steel. The Hamon (tember line) is a wide notare with a Itame hada. The Nagasa (cutting edge) is 20” (50.8cm). This smith, Kuni Tsuew, worked around 1673 and is rated 15 points by Hawley (p. 354). This wakizashi is in Shirasaya with copper habaki.
