Southern Long Rifle by Elisha Rogers .38 caliber rifle By Elisha Rogers, Augusta, Georgia. 38¾” Octagon barrel with good rifling bore. Approximately .38 caliber percussion. Metal is an even brown patina and scattered roughness. Barrel is marked “E.H. Rogers/ Augusta GA/ 454”. The lock is marked “R. Ashmore”. Lock and hammer are engraved with the lock having two birds in flight and two what appear to be grouse. The German silver butt plate, patch box, and trigger guard are fine. The stock is very good with checkered wrist and a few storage dents. The action functions with the double triggers needing adjustment. Elisha H. Rogers (1813-1891) worked Augusta, GA, from 1842 to 1891. He is known for high quality percussion rifles and pistols. This Rogers rifle exhibits the high quality.
