Steyr VK-98 8mm (R20824)

Steyr VK-98 8mm caliber rifle. Scarce German VK-98 bolt action rifle by Steyr. 21” barrel with a bright near excellent bore that shows a minor area of frosting near muzzle. The metal surfaces of this bnz 45 coded 5 shot rifle retain 85% original blue with some scattered areas of fading on the barrel, receiver, floorplate and trigger guard. The butt plate shows light oxidation staining and the laminated stock rates very good with a ½” abrasion on right side of pistol grip, a few small chips around heel, scattered handling marks and dings. The bolt handle and barrel are the only numbered parts and they are matching to each other. The rifle has the correct “bnz 45” code, the correct bolt, the correct fixed rear sight and the correct sling hardware. The floorplate is marked “byf” and with two “(Eagle)/135” for Mauser Oberndorf which was a subcontractor for the VK-98 rifles and the front floorplate screw is missing. A rubber muzzle cap and a permanently attached period leather sling that shows crazing throughout and is marked “M5/27/6/RZ” on the buckle are included with this rifle. A very good example of these scarce Volkssturm rifles.
