U.S. Model 1841 “Mississippi” .54 (AL5032)

U.S. Model 1841 “Mississippi” .54 caliber rifle. Manufactured in 1850 by Ely Whitney. 33” Round .54 caliber barrel with visible rifling and fair bore. Metal has a smooth brown patina. Lock is marked “E. Whitney/ U.S.” at the center and “N Haven/ 1850” at the rear. Barrel tang is dated “1850” with “US/ JH/ VP” inspection stamps and “Steel” on the left flate. The brass furniture is very good. Stock is solid with two dents above the left-rear flat, and three areas of old wood loss between the bands and the side of the barrel. Two inspectors’ cartouches are visible on the left-flat. The cleaning rod and sling swivels are present and action functions correctly. A very nice Mississippi that probably saw Civil War use
