U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket (AL5198)

U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket. Made by Harpers Ferry Armory in 1847. The overall length is approx. 57.5”. The 42” round .69 caliber barrel has an excellent smooth bore. The breech is stamped V/P/eagle head with inspectors’ initials over P ahead of that. The lock has the eagle over US in the center and “Harpers/Ferry/1847” at the tail. There is no stock cartouche visible. All metal is bright with only very mild staining in a few places. The wood is fine with sharp edges and very few handling dings, including one at the barrel forward of the middle band. Both sling swivels and the ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This is a great example of the last smoothbore .69 caliber U.S. musket.
