Unique Naval French Musket Model 1777 with English Lockplate (AL4744)

Unique Naval French Musket Model 1777 with English Lockplate. Lockplate is inscribed “Whately” (Possibly a John Whately out of Birmingham, 1788-1833). Our conjecture is that the musket is a captured French musket that had an English lockplate installed at some point. Metal has a gray patina. Stock is good. Shows use and wear. Musket appears to have had a hard life. Very interesting gun that deserves more detective work.
