Winchester 1892 .25-20 (W5820)

Winchester 1892 .25-20 caliber rifle manufactured 1911. Bore is rough. This is a nice example of American folk art woodwork referred to as “chip carved wood”. This was popular art form in the 1920’s and was dine using special chisels and knives. Many museums have examples of “chip carved” art such as cabinets, plates, clocks etc.. This is the only firearm of any kind (other than a 17th century French wheelock) that we have seen chip carved. Gun has about 80-85% blue on the barrel and tube. Gun has a tang sight and condition very good.
