Imperial German Gew 88 8mm infantry rifle. Rifle made by the Amberg Arsenal in 1891. Rifle was upgraded, circa WWI, for charger loading of five-round 8mm clips with Spitzer (pointed) bullets. It was then sold to Turkey. The Turks marked the bolt with the Turkish crescent, and the rear sight was remarked with Arabic numbers. Metal is an overall pleasing blue/brown. Wood is solid with no cracks or chips, visible inspection stamps, and the nicks and dings to be expected of a nearly 130-year Gew carried by German and Turkish soldiers. Bore is excellent. Action functions correctly and cleaning rod is present. The rear sling swivel and lower magazine cover are also in place. Overall, this is a very good example of a pre-WWI and WWI German infantry rifle that made its way to Turkey for use by the Turkish Army.
