Price: $4,975.00

AL5180

Very scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1840 Flintlock Musket from the famed Western Cartridge Company collection. 30,421 were manufactured circa 1840 to 1843. Virtually all were altered to percussion in the late 1840s and 1850s. The 42” round .69 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fine bore. The barrel, bands, trigger guard, and butt plate have a smooth brown patina. The lock and cock are mostly bright with scattered staining. The stock is good with no cracks or chips but with numerous storage dings and dents most likely from its use in the Western Cartridge Company reference collection. The front sling swivel is all there but is bent. The rear swivel and ramrod are present. The barrel is marked with the usual V/P/eagle. In addition, the top is marked W.C.CO. and the left flat has the inventory number 564. The lock has the eagle over US in the center and SPRING/FIELD/1840 on the tail. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice, reasonably priced example of the scarce Springfield Model 1840 musket from the Western Cartridge Company reference collection.
