Price: $3,950.00

AL5251

Only 108 of these rifles were delivered to the state of Maryland on August 20, 1813. Most of these rifle that are encountered today have been altered from flintlock to percussion, as this example has been. The 39¼” octagon .56 caliber rifled barrel has a dark bore with strong rifling. The barrel has been shortened approximately 4”. The muzzle end is round with a bayonet lug on the bottom. The barrel is marked “H. Deringer/ Philada”. There is an “M” on the top flat at the breech. This lock is marked “H. Deringer/ Phila.” The patchbox, which is unique to Deringer riles, has an eagle head outline. The barrel and lock have a smooth gray/brown patina. The brass furniture is very good with an even patina. The stock is good with erosion at the hammer and a missing 5” chip along the right upper forearm. There are scattered use/storage dents and dings; but overall, the stock is very presentable. The action functions correctly but the main spring is weak. The patchbox functions correctly. For more information on the Deringer rifles see Flayderman (9th Edition), page 608. These rifles rarely come up for sale. If you collect Maryland firearms, state militia rifles, Deringer rifles, or military rifles, then this Deringer Maryland militia rifle is for you. Don’t miss it!
