This early series 2 Nagoya Arsenal Type 99 rifle is complete with the monopod and bayonet. in addition, the royal chrysanthemum on top of the chamber is present. The 25.5" 7.7mm Japanese caliber barrel has and excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The rear sight still has its antiaircraft wings. Alll the expected markings are present: the royal chrysanthemum over the chamber followed by the symbols for 99 Type; and on the left side of the receiver, the series 4 mark followed by the serial number followed by the Nagoya Arsenal symboll. The metal is bright with staining and areas of pitting at the muzzle, monopod base, trigger guard, chamber, and forward receiver. The bolt, nosecap, and receiver serial numbers match. The swivels, monopod, and cleaning rod are present. The two-piece stock, with the correct right side and bottom drain holes, and handguard are very good with scattered usage dents and dings. The stock appears to have had finish added at some point. The action functions correctly. The corredt early Nagoya Type 30 bayonet is very good. It has the hook quillion and is numbered on the end of the pommel. The blued blade is excellent. The scabbard is very good. This rifle obviously has "been there and done that" and is almost certainly a GI WWII bring back from one of the Pacific islands. It saw use but not abuse and is all there and appears to be all correct. If you are looking for a Type 99 rifle that took part in the fight for the Pacific, look no further.
