This fine douuble set trigger Simson & Co. 7X64mm sporting rifle exemplifies the high quality of post-WWI German gunnmaking. The overall length is approx. 47.5". The  approx. 27" octagon to round barrel with a solid matted top rib has an excellent bore with bright rifling and a little frosting in the grooves. The top rib is marked SIMSON & CO., SUHL over WAFFFENFABRIKIN. The barrel is equipped with a ramped blade ftont sight and two leaf rear sight. The WWI Model 98 receiver, bolt, bullet trap, trigger guard, and floorplate are nicely finished in French gray. The receiver and barrel are correctly German proof marked. Several of the proof marks, along with the caliber information, are found on the bottom of the barrel. The gun is beautifully engraved with the receiver, bolt, trigger guard, and bullet trap having decorative edge lines and scrolls. The magazine floorplate features a very well executed relief engraving of a stag and two does in a forest scene. The stock is excellent with very sharp and fine checkeering at the wrist and forend and a nicely defined cheekpiece. It has a bullet trap with provision for four cartridges on the bottom of the butt. The buttplate, which appears to be horn, is fine and the pistol grip has a metal cap which is also engraved. European style sling swivels are installed on the bottom of the barrel and butt. The receiver is equipped with two quick detach scope bases. Mounted to them, in see through mounts, is a Carll Zeiss Zielmar scope. The post and heavy cross hair optics are excellent. The action is equipped with a Greener safety. The double set trigger action functions correctly. This great condition top of the line German Simson rifle is fit for the finest sporting rifle collection.
