Scarce U.S. Model 1841 Mississippi rifle by Tryon .54 caliber (AL8175)

NSN, made in 1847, .54 caliber, 33" proofed rifled barrel. Only 5,000 Tryon were manufactured for the Government. Barrel is a light grey patina with pin-prick surface oxidation noted. A faint "1847" is visible on the breech with inspector marks noted. Stock shows light handling wear with two handsome cartouches visible. Lock plate is marked "Tryon/US" rear of the hammer is marked "PHILADA/PA/1847". Action holds at half and full cock. The brass furniture is a nice dull gold color. There is a good chance this rifle saw service in the Mexican American War!
