U.S. Springfield Model 1855 rifled musket .58 caliber (AL7515)
NSN, circa 1859, .58 caliber, 40" round barrel. Barrel and other iron parts are a dark grey patina with scattered pin-prick oxidation visible. Lock plate is marked "US/SPRINGFIELD, "Eagle Motif" on tape primer lid compartment. Rear of lock plate has "1859". Walnut stock has expected gouges, nicks and scratches. Wood loss is visible between hammer and barrel tang, this indicates a lot of firing. The bore shows faint rifling visible, validating this rifles use, possibly during the early battles of the Civil War!
