Beautiful Pair of Wheel Lock Puffer Pistols (AH8710)
Made circa 1590.in Saxony. 58 caliber with 13” barrels. This is a true pair of puffers made en suite. The fruit wood stocks are intricately inlaid with carved stag in concentric complicated scroll patterns that intertwine. The bottom of each of the ball butts has a carved vignette of a deity like figure. The barrel and lock are in the bright. These guns were in the collection of Stephen V Grancsay. Mr. Grancsay was the curator of Arms and Armor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1929 to 1963. He made a significant donation of his collection in 1942 to the Museum. These were also in the collection of Dr. Jerome Zwanger of Long Island New York. Exquisite set of Saxon Wheelock Puffer Style Pistols!
