Beautiful Cased Pair of James Purdey Percussion Pistols (AH8475)

Serial number 1902 & 1903. Made in1829-1830. 45 caliber with 9 ½” barrels. This pair is in excellent condition as English refinished with 95% of the brown on the barrels. Excellent case colors remain on the lock, breech plug, tang and butt cap. Almost all of the trigger guards are covered in high luster blue. The stocks are excellent with nice sharp checkering. These guns come in a very fine case with all of the accessories. The interior Purdey label is marked “Captain Nicholson/ 10^th Hussars” Christopher Hampden Nicholson purchased a commission in the 10^th Roya Regiment of light Dragoons (hussars) on March 3, 1825. In January of 1826, he purchased a Lieutenant’s commission on the Unattached list and then exchanged it with the paymaster of the 10^th and returned to the regiment as a lieutenant. The 10^th went to Portugal in 1827 for 2 years due to the threat of war with Spain. In 1831, Nicholson purchased a promotion. He was on Half pay from April of 1841 before selling his commission in May of 1861. Very fine identified set from England’s best maker!
